Hello everyone! Today I wanted to chat about my current skincare regime and explain to you how it works for me! I would like to preface this post by saying that different things work for different skin types. I am not a licensed esthetician, I’m just sharing what works for me and could also possibly work for you. So with all that out of the way, let’s get to it!
First I’ll go over my routine then I delve deeper into what each product actually does.
- Cleanse with the This Works, Clean Skin Gentle Cleanser. Just using hands and warm water.
- Tap on under eye treatment, Tarte, C-Brighter.
- Sometimes I will also add a spritz of Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rose Water. For added hydration.
- For summer I’ll skip applying Argan Oil and go straight to sunscreen.
- Apply sunscreen on the face all the way down to the neck and chest too! I use the Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face 50+ Sunscreen.
- Then I let it all sink in and go about my usual makeup routine!
- If I have worn a lot of makeup that day I’ll start with a cleansing balm, my favourite is the Ren No1 Purity Balm.
- Then I’ll use either a Glycolic Foaming Cleanser OR Gentle Cleanser with the PuraSonic brush. Every third day I use the Mario Badescu Glycolic Foaming Cleanser and I don’t use my PuraSonic on those days, just to give my skin some repair time.
- Next, I’ll go in with my Vitamin C serum, from Mario Badescu. Just 3-4 drops all the way down to the chest.
- Then my Physicians Formula Argan Oil.
- If I have any breakouts I’ll pop a spot treatment on them. I use the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion. And I leave that on overnight!
That’s me! this routine works well for my combination and sometimes oily skin. So now I’m going to explain what each product does, so you can see if you think it might work for you!
Gentle Cleanser – Clean Skin Gentle Cleanser by This Works. Any gentle cleanser will softly remove any makeup, dirt or gunk that you may have accumulated on your skin throughout the night. It also provides a nice fresh slate for all other skincare products to sink into. The reason I enjoy this particular cleanser by This Works is that it contains rosehip oil and eucalyptus. The rosehip keeps the skin soft and nourished while still clean and the eucalyptus has antibacterial qualities that also reduce breakouts (for me anyway). It also comes with a pump so it’s easy to use the perfect amount, which for my face is about 3 pumps.
Eye Cream – Maracuja C-Brighter by Tarte. Any eye cream should provide hydration and some brightening effects for under the eye. I personally find this one to be great for hydration and when I use it consistently it really does brighten my dark circles. This cream contains antioxidants which help reverse any damage done by the sun while nourishing the eye area. I feel the added hydration also makes the appearance of my fine lines less visible.
Facial Mist – Aloe, Herb and Rosewater Facial Mist by Mario Badescu. This is kind of a non-essential step. But boy does it feel good in the summer! It’s just so refreshing and the ingredients in this mist give an instant boost of hydration if I’m feeling dry or if my skin is tight after over cleansing.
Sunscreen – To Save Face 50+ by Mecca Cosmetica. I think sunscreen is the most important part of this whole routine. It’s easier to prevent skin damage than it is to repair it. That’s why I choose such a high SPF sunscreen. I enjoy this one because it is basically a facial moisturiser too. So I don’t have to double up. It contains vitamin E and hyaluronic acid, the vitamin E is an antioxidant which will help repair any previous damage and the hyaluronic acid will hydrate and plump the skin. This sunscreen also smells nothing like tradition sunscreen (which is a win) and sits so nicely under makeup. For me, it evens out my skin immediately giving it radiance, without the white cast of traditional sunscreens. This type of sunscreen is a chemical sunscreen which means it absorbs and diffuses the suns rays instead of deflecting them like a physical sunscreen would. I might do a whole different post on the pros and cons of both types of sunscreen another time.
Cleansing Balm – No1 Purity Balm by Ren Skincare. This oil to cleanser formula is great for removing heavy makeup. The concept is that the oils in the balm pull the oil and makeup from your face. Leaving you squeaky clean and leaving your skin nourished by the oils. I use the oil straight onto my dry skin then you add a little warm water after a couple of minutes of rubbing to turn the oil into a milky wash. Then I gently remove it with a cloth. This stuff also removes waterproof mascara but does sting if you get too much in your eyes!
Glycolic Cleanser – Glycolic Foaming Cleanser by Mario Badescu. Any face wash with glycolic acid is going to leave the skin bright and smooth. Glycolic Acid gently removes any dead skin cells and dirt build up in your pores. It also encourages cell turnover and evens out any pigmentation on the skin. This particular product is so nourishing, my skin doesn’t feel tight or really dry after this cleanser. I do only use this about 2-3 times a week because it is essentially removing dead skin quicker than usual and I don’t want any irritation.
Sonic Cleansing Brush – PuraSonic ViVA Brush by Pura Beauté. The use of ‘sonic’ cleansing is fairly new to the beauty world (last 5 years or so). The idea is that the particular oscillations of the brush deep clean your pores and remove any dead skin and dirt manually. This leaves skin feeling brighter and cleaner than if you cleansed with your hands. I personally only use this once a day (not at all on Glycolic Cleansing days though) and find my skin to be so smooth after. This visibly reduces bumps on my skin and also removes any makeup I’ve missed. I would definitely recommend a sonic brush to really help with skin texture issues.
Vitamin C – Vitamin C Serum by Mario Badescu. Vitamin C is a strong antioxidant that removes skin pigmentation and protects the skin against damage from free radicals (an atom or molecule missing an electron, the atom then goes on to break down healthy cells to get its missing electron causing damage).
Free radicals turn the oils of our skin rancid which in turn damages the collagen in the skin. Collagen is the protein in fibers that serve as the building blocks of our skin.
Free radicals are linked to premature ageing and sun damage, so using a vitamin C serum will provide the antioxidants to stop the free radicals. I use about 3-4 drops of this serum ( a little goes a long way) all over my face and chest. Over the course of a year, this serum has made a huge impact on the visibility of my once prominent freckles. It has also made my skin tone way more even and bright!
Argan Oil – Ultra Nourishing Argan Oil by Physicians Formula. Argan Oil is my holy grail product to keep my skin soft and hydrated! At first, I was sceptical because I thought this would make my skin more oily and prone to breakouts but it doesn’t! Argan Oil sinks right in leaving my skin hydrated, especially overnight. And with this amazing hydration comes reduced dryness, less visible lines/wrinkles, bright and even skin. I also sometimes put this on my nails to give them a boost of strength.
Pimple Spot Treatment – Drying Lotion by Mario Badescu. I honestly don’t use this that often but when I do it really helps my spots. I use this on pimples that are just emerging. It dries them out overnight and removes redness too. It’s like a miracle, except it is just doing as the label says. Removing the oil from the pore, making the pimple go away. Easy as!
I know there are a lot of Mario Badescu items here. I just genuinely love the no bullshit, straight to the point products that Mario Badescu produces! Also, I paid for all of these items myself, and this post is NOT sponsored.
Well, that was long! Thanks for sticking with me through this huge post! I hope you have learned some things today that may help your skin issues. Let me know your holy grail skincare products in the comments. Have a great week!
