Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Vol 3: Review

Hey beauty lovers! I hope your week is going well. Today’s post is just a quick (ok long) blab about the new Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Vol 3 Holiday palette. I have been wanting this palette since I seen Hourglass release it on their Instagram. But of course, it was released in the US about 3 months ago and is only just available here in Australia now! But I managed to get my hands on this bad boy thanks to Mecca Maxima and their holiday pre-sale. It will be available in stores and online for everyone on the 9th November.

So let’s jump right into the specifics!

It cost $117 from Mecca and comes with 6 powders, 3 original (Dim Light, Diffused Light, Luminous Bronze Light) and 3 never before released (Surreal Halo, Pure Effect and Hypnotic Strobe Light). Each pan holds 1.4 grams of product. Which I will admit looked smaller than expected, but because the pans are dome-shaped you get a lot more product than it seems.  There are 2 finishing powders, 1 bronzer, 2 blushes and 1 highlight powder. The set comes with a cute little instructional picture so you know what each powder is for and where on the face it goes! The packaging is luxurious as expected with Hourglass products, they are very high end and the quality mirror and packaging reflects that.

This palette contains one of my all-time favourite Hourglass powders, the Dim Light Finishing powder. I’m so glad to have that staple in this palette, and personally, I think it’s one of the most universally flattering powders that everyone should try. The other finishing powder in the palette is in the shade Diffused Light. Both of these powders are great for use all over the face. I will say that for very pale skin tones Dim Light may be a tad dark but Diffused Light is definitely lighter. Personally, I use both, Dim Light for the outer edges of my face and Diffused Light in the center parts.

The next powder is the Strobe Powder (highlight) in the shade Hypnotic Strobe Light. I have never used any Hourglass highlighters before so I was so glad to see this new colour included in the palette. Hypnotic Strobe Light is a light champagne with pearly shimmers. It does have a little sparkle to it, but nothing overly chunky and it can be blended in for a more subtle look or used wet for extra glow. I really enjoy the look of this powder and can’t wait to use it more to test it out.

The bronzing powder, Luminous Bronze Light is a satin type powder. I’ll quickly add here that all of these powders have such a luxurious satin finish that brings such an amazing brightness and glow to the skin without being over the top. Luminous Bronze can also be used for light contouring on the face. This bronzer is quite warm toned so for those that enjoy a cool contour, this might not work for you. But as a whole, I think this is a really beautiful colour.

Next is the two blushes, Surreal Halo and Pure Effect (both new).  Surreal Halo is a darker berry colour but blends out to a beautiful tan deep red with a satin finish. This would be great for deeper skin tones but still works well on lighter tones too! The Pure Effect blush is a lot pinker. It’s a classic bright pink but blends down to a gorgeous light pink flush with a satin finish. Both of these blushes blend so so easily and look so luminous on the cheek, I own other hourglass blushes and to be honest they are all amazing!

So that’s the breakdown folks. In conclusion, I would highly recommend this palette! I can’t wait to take it travelling, it’s got all you could need. I think the price is more than justifiable for what you get, and in general Hourglass items are on the more expensive end of the spectrum anyway. There’s not one powder in here I won’t be using they are all so perfect and I can’t wait to use them more! I hope this was helpful for those of you hoping to buy this palette.

Thanks for reading.
