Drunk Elephant Skincare Rise and Glow Minis – A Review

Welcome back beautiful people!

Today’s post is about the Drunk Elephant skincare minis I purchased over a month ago. I have finally finished testing and trying the products for a decent amount of time. Now I can bring you my honest review and opinions.

I’ve had the Drunk Elephant Rise and Glow Duo for about a month now. I had been consistently using it for about 2-3 of those weeks and after all the hype I was preparing to be blown away. But alas I was not swept off my feet. These 2 products; B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel and the C-Firma Day Serum are good products, just not for my skin type. The pack of 2 minis retails for $33 (AUD). I think this is perfect to trial the product before committing to a full-size purchase. For reference at the time of trialling this product, my skin type was Combination to Dry.

Let’s start with the C-Firma Day Serum.

The product claims to, “firm and brighten using a potent antioxidant complex of 15% l-ascorbic acid, ferulic acid, essential nutrients, fruit enzymes and chronopeptide.  I found this serum to have quite a strange smell, not a pleasant smell, definitely an unusual scent. It was bright yellow/orange, sometimes leaving a tinge of colour to the skin if not rubbed in properly. The product was a little tacky to the touch. It also felt like it took a while to sink into the skin.

I didn’t notice any visible differences in the time I was using the C-Firma Day Serum, which was saddening. I personally prefer the Mario Badescu Vitamin C Serum for the feel and smell of the product. Also, the Mario Badescu Vitamin C Serum is $66 for 29ml. Whereas the Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum is $116 for 30ml. For me personally, I think I’ll stick to the Mario Badescu product due to the formula for my skin and of course the cost. Many people rave about the Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum so I still think it’s worth trying the mini versions before you spend big for the full-size product!

Next is the B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel.

This was the first time I have ever used a gel moisturiser, so it was an interesting trial. It claims to, “quench thirsty skin and deliver long-lasting hydration with its blend of pro-vitamin B5 and pineapple ceramide. I found the B-Hydra Gel to have a slight plastic smell to it, nothing pretty really. It also stayed tacky for a long while after application, I’m not sure if this is typical of gel moisturisers but I personally don’t like the sticky feel.

I feel this moisturiser would be better suited to those with very oily skin. Because it was winter here in Australia when I tried this, it wasn’t enough moisture for my face to feel nourished. Another downside to this is that there is no SPF, so for me that limited its use to night time only. I would much prefer to use Argan Oil at night instead of a typical moisturiser. The Josie Maran Argan Oil is $70 for 50ml and the Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel is $75 for 50ml so pretty comparable in price. Noting that the B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel has more ingredients it may be better suited to other skin types.

Overall I am glad that I tried this Rise and Glow duo and would definitely purchase mini’s of other Drunk Elephant Skincare in the future. The brand is worth a try for everyone and I can’t wait to try some of their other products!
